Wynns Hotel first opened its doors in 1845, and since the very first day, the hotel has enjoyed a fine reputation for warmth, hospitality and service. The hotel which has a colourful history was first opened by Ms. Phoebe Wynn, who owned the hotel until 1852, and the hotel's name then changed to Telford's during successive ownerships. However, in 1897 the name reverted to Wynns when acquired by the Clarence Hotel Co. and over the years has played host to many famous personalities and dignitaries.

The hotel was burnt to the ground during the Easter rising of 1916 and was finally rebuilt by the Clarence Hotel Co. in 1926. In 1965 John Loftus became manager of the Clarence Hotel, and in 1972 became Managing Director of the group. Mr. And Mrs. Loftus then bought out the hotel in 1992, and have since carried out considerable renovations. Since then it has been the aim of Mr. & Mrs. Loftus to continue the fine tradition of hospitality and service so synonymous with the Wynns Hotel name.
