Chief
O'Neills
is themed on legendary Irish
traditional music, and named
in honour of Chief Francis
O'Neill, an avid collector
of the same, located in Smithfield
Village, Chief O'Neill's is
one of Ireland's finest contemporary
hotels, a design trait which
is reflected throughout the
village.
The man himself, Chief Francis
O'Neill was born near Bantry
in County Cork, and left Ireland
at the age of 17. After a
fairly varied and adventurous
life as a sailor, teacher
and railroad worker, he ended
up joining the Chicago Police
Department where he was made
Chief of Police in 1901.
Accommodation
Virtually
every visitor to the hotel is
completely taken aback by the
whole experience. Chief O'Neill's
is by far the most futuristic
hotel in Ireland, and it works
very well indeed. Each of the
73 fabulous en suite rooms comes
complete with individually controlled
air conditioning, multi channel
satellite television, direct
dial telephones, modem lines,
dedicated ISDN lines, CD players,
and the list goes on.
When
guests enter the room, they
are greeted by a personalised
welcome message on the television.
Each of the bathrooms even
contain specially commissioned
wash hand basins, designed
specifically for the hotel.
The beds are large and extremely
comfortable, the staff pleasant,
and most importantly the Guinness
nice and cold.
Dining
& Entertainment
The
hotel is home to Chief O'Neill's
Café and Bar, a pure, contemporary
Irish traditional music café
& bar. Featuring some of Ireland's
most talented traditional musicians
performing live, a carefully
chosen menu of old favourites
and new Irish cuisine, all served
up by friendly staff, it's destined
to be one of Dublin's finest
bars. Chief O'Neill's runs a
wide selection of both Irish
and International music nights
in the hotel on Thursday, Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday nights.
More information on the hotel's
entertainment programme will
provided upon your arrival.
Located adjacent to the hotel,
in the Smithfield Village complex,
Kelly & Ping, Ireland's most
unexpected cultural crossroads
serves fine Asian cuisine in
a traditional Irish Bar. The
Chimney viewing tour provides
360-degree panoramic views across
beautiful Dublin, from north
to south, east to west, from
the bay to the mountains. Allow
Dublin's skyline to unfold before
you as the glass walled lift
delivers you to the viewing
tower at the top of the chimney.
Traditional Music
No
visit to Chief O'Neill's would
be complete without exploring
Ceól - the traditional Irish
music experience. If music is
Ireland's cultural lifeblood,
then this is a voyage to its
very heart. Ceól (Irish for
music) is a unique, interactive
visitors centre that celebrates
the living story of Irish traditional
music, song and dance, its roots,
its energy, its personalities.
Each visit is then completed
with a twenty-five minute video,
giving a brief history of Irish
music, and showcasing the different
types of Irish music which can
be experienced in each region.
Seated on a tilted platform,
visitors experience the music
coursing through their veins
while the magnificent audio
visual showcase unfolds on a
180 degree screen right before
their very eyes.
